The Effects of Perceptions of Parenthood on Procreation Consciousness and the Mediating Effect of Marriage Consciousness: For Adolescents

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of adolescents' perceptions of parenthood on procreation consciousness and the mediating effect of marriage consciousness. The subjects of this study were 614 adolescents who lived in Daejeon who agreed with this study. The main results of the study are as follows. First, adolescents' perceptions of parenthood had a positive effect on marriage consciousness. This means that the higher the perceptions of parenthood, the higher the marriage consciousness. Second, the perceptions of parenthood had a positive effect on procreation consciousness. This means that the higher the perceptions of parenthood among adolescents, the higher the procreation consciousness. Third, marriage consciousness of adolescents had a positive effect on procreation consciousness. This means that the higher the marriage consciousness of the youth, the higher the procreation consciousness. Fourth, adolescents' perceptions of parenthood has a positive effect on procreation consciousness by mediating marriage consciousness. This means that the higher the perceptions of parenthood among adolescents, the higher the level of marriage consciousness and the higher the procreation consciousness. Based on the above results, we discussed practical and policy interventions to improve adolescent marriage consciousness and procreation consciousness.
